The significance of the FBI Boston Division cannot be undervalued. For example, this Division, which had its beginnings as early as 1908, earned an illustrious reputation in the 1980s and 1990s during the investigation of organized crime families Gennaro Anguilo and La Costa Nostra, as well as the indictment and subsequent arrest of James J. “Whitey” Bulger in 2011.
The FBI Boston Division was responsible for solving the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum heist of 1990, which included stolen artwork estimated at $500 million.
