The History of FBI Careers in Little Rock, AR

The history of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Little Rock goes all the way back to 1924. At that time, the FBI had an office in the city because of problems with bootleggers during prohibition. But, the office did not last long and it closed soon after. The Little Rock jurisdiction then went through many hands, at various times it was under the supervision of the FBI field offices in Memphis, Tennessee; Dallas, Texas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It would be another decade before the FBI opened a permanent field office in Arkansas, and it would later take on more responsibilities during World War II. The Cold War brought about different priorities for the FBI, as it focused more on international and intelligence gathering tasks, but eventually the FBI went back to focusing on domestic duties and Little Rock became a much busier field office than it was in the past.
